Run your own race

Key takeaway of the day:

  • Run your own race

A story for you

I remember when I was 13 of my middle school track team, I watched one race where a kid in my school named Michael won by a landslide.

How did he do it?

Well, he was running the mile, and for the first three laps he was in third place, but every time he lapped the track, coach told him “you’re right on pace Michael”.

As Michael rounded corners, he slowed down, and on the straights he sped up. The wind was strong and it was tough to breathe that day. It seemed like a tough race until the last lap where- right in the spot where the wind was working with him, Michael used the underage he’d reserved not being pressured to run that little bit faster to push ahead the two kids in front of him.

When he finished everyone congratulated him, and our coach turned around to us with a big smile and said “Michael ran his own race.”

Time spent Yesterday: 100 minutes + ✅

What I made:

Today I realised I don’t want the main focus of my strategy to be leads, I want it to be growth. I spent so much time looking at other people when what I wanted right now is to establish my reputation and get into business school. If business comes right now, and it aligns, great, but honestly I’ve got a lot on my plate and I need to level up.

I’m running my own race, and right now I just want people to know me and trust that whatever I do, it’s going to be good and I’m not going to quit at it.

Struggles and what went well

Struggles:

Im exhausted because last night I was so cold it woke me up, also my little cousin wanted to sleep in the same bed as me and he kept kicking me in the night. I’m also going to get my period soon, and all in all im just tired.

I didn’t want to do a single thing on my to do list today, but I wanted to fail even less.

What went well:

I feel more organised by the end of the day. I thought it was Friday, but it’s Thursday. This is great because I have tomorrow to plan Dan’s ad campaign. I’m going to also promote the episode for a week before and after on socials, I just need to get enough good clips.

I’m also still enjoying threads, and today I’m able to see the future I want and enjoy the moment. I’m able to block everyone out and run my own race. Today feels like a good reminder of the lesson to stop comparing myself to anyone else.

The end
